Mia Richkind, M.S., CCC-SLP
Certified Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)
Mia Richkind, M.S., CCC-SLP is a proud graduate of both the University of California, Santa Barbara and the University of Washington. She is a nationally certified speech-language pathologist (SLP). Prior to becoming an SLP, Mia pursued a career as an opera singer. During her singing journey, she was introduced to the field of speech-language pathology by another singer and SLP in her voice studio. In between auditions, Mia joined an introduction class with volunteer hours, where she discovered her natural gift for working with children and adults on their communication skills. Mia went on to pursue post-baccalaureate work in communication disorders from California State University, Los Angeles, where she completed coursework and earned a license as a speech-language pathology assistant (SLPA). While Mia honed her early therapeutic skills, she yearned for more knowledge and more control over assessment and treatment plans, which spurred her to attend one of the top three nationally ranked SLP graduate programs in the United States at the University of Washington.
Mia has over 17 years of experience working in early intervention with the birth to three population and working with children, adolescents and adults in the private clinic and home settings. Mia dedicated 11 years of service in the public school setting with students ages three years old through twenty-two years old. She is PROMPT Level 1 & 2 trained and a certified ADHD Related Service Provider (ADHD-RSP). Mia is a neurodivergent affirming therapist who acknowledges and celebrates the diversity of neurological characteristics and differences like Autism and ADHD. She understands that being neurodivergent is not a disorder or something to be “fixed,” but rather a natural part of human variation. Mia takes a client centered approach, taking into consideration the needs and values of the client and their family. With young children, Mia often embeds therapeutic tasks in functional play. With older children, adolescents, and adults, therapy can look more structured with targeted exercises. Mia enjoys inserting humor and music into therapy whenever possible, always focusing on what’s functional and most important to the client, and, as applicable, their family.
